Fill potholes by Monday, says Karnataka High Court

Number of potholes will not be less than 1,00,000.

BENGALURU: Within hours of being rapped on the knuckles by the High Court for the abysmal state of the much touted IT capital's road network, riddled with potholes and craters, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike went into overdrive - by Thursday, BBMP officials, seen across the city, directing cement mixers, claimed that they had filled up a grand total of 899 potholes.

Bengaluru's harried citizens who must cope with a back-breaking, nerve wracking ride to the workplace and back, will greet the submission by the BBMP that they have identified many more potholes which they will fill at the earliest, with a healthy dose of scepticism. The High Court has now set Monday as the new deadline, asking the Palike to ensure zero portholes by then. The BBMP claims that it only has 2,172 potholes left to fill, but urban experts peg it at over 1,00,000 on the 800 kms of main roads.
