IMD Predicts Formation of New Low-Pressure Area, Heavy Rains Expected in AP
Visakhapatnam: A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the Northwest and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal around July 24, said a report issued by IMD Amaravati on Friday.
The report said the present low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast now layover south Odisha – north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining northwest and West Central Bay of Bengal with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level.
It is likely to move slowly west-northwest wards across south Odisha - north Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next two days.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Jaisalmer, Kota, Raisen, Chhindwara, and Durg, centre of the low-pressure area over south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh and thence east-southeastwards to East Central Bay of Bengal extending upto 2.1 km above mean sea level.
A cyclonic circulation lies over south Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood extending up to 2.1 km above mean sea level. The shear zone roughly along Lat. 20° N between 3.1 and 7.6 km above mean sea level persisted, the report said.
Under the influence of the present system and the impending fresh low pressure are likely to cause heavy rains in north-coastal and south-coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Yanam. Heavy rains are also likely over Nellore, Prakasam, Tirupati, Nandyal, ASR district and Palnadu. During the last 24 hours, ASR district received 4 cms of rain, the IMD report
