New dialysis centre, blood bank in Hyderabad hospital

HYDERABAD: One more government-run dialysis centre that provides free service to patients was inaugurated at the Nampally Area Hospital on Thursday, along with the starting of a blood bank.

This takes the number of government dialysis centres in the state from 3 in the past to 102, and government-run blood banks from 28 to 56, health minister T. Harish Rao said.

After inaugurating the two new facilities, Harish Rao said the government also provides financial support to dialysis patients through pensions, and free bus passes to ensure their financial security.

With respect to blood banks, the minister said component separators were provided to 27 blood banks, enabling the use of one unit of blood for three to four patients. “We are committed to strengthening the state's healthcare infrastructure and among various projects is the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) project to provide 6000 super speciality beds in the state,” he said.

Harish Rao also said the government would soon implement the KCR Nutrition Kit programme to provide essential nutrition support to 6.5 lakh pregnant women with a budget of Rs 250 crore allocated by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
