She said she would like to use her presence to reemphasise her message of unity, empathy and acceptance of people from all walks of life.

Hyderabad: About a year after her husband, Srinivas Kuchibotla, was shot dead in a hate crime in Kansas, Ms Sunayana Dumala, on a mission to keep his legacy live, has been invited to attend US President Donald Trump’s maiden State of the Union address on January 30.

Ms Dumala told this newspaper that she saw it as “an invitation of friendship to the immigrant community to feel welcome in America and continue to live their dreams.”

She said she would like to use her presence to reemphasise her message of unity, empathy and acceptance of people from all walks of life.“This is how I honour Srinu and I believe that there is an opportunity to shine a national spotlight on this message,” she said.

Ms Dumala, in partnership with her employer Intouch Solutions, recently launched a social media campaign, #ForeverWelcome. She said it aimed at sharing stories from the immigrant community through social media. “Forever Welcome raises awareness of immigrants’ contributions to our society and assures them that they are ‘forever welcome’ here in the US,” she added.
