Highest IT raids in Karnataka on Congress leaders: Dr G Parameshwar

Parameshwar did not come to the defence of the raided leaders and said the state government had no role to play in it.

Belagavi: Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar has caustically remarked that that the Income Tax Department (which comes under the Centre) conducted the highest number of raids on Congress leaders in the state.

While admitting that he had received information about raids on the properties of his party leaders in Belagavi through the media, he declined to comment on this stating that he did not have details.

Speaking to mediapersons at Sambra airport in Belagavi on Friday, Dr Parameshwar did not come to the defence of the raided leaders and said the state government had no role to play in it.

After inaugurating a programme organised by his department to confirm promotions of police officials, he said, 25,000 vacancies of constable existed in his department of which 21,000 were recently filled up. All the newly appointed constables had joined a training programme being conducted prior to their joining the force.

Admitting that his department was yet to appoint a new Director General of Police for the state, he said, the new DGP would be announced by the government by February 1.
