Teachers not for common varsity law

The government's plans to bring in a common legislation for all state universities will make no difference.

HYDERABAD: The government’s plans to bring in a common legislation for all state universities will make no difference, the Telangana State Federation of University Teachers Association said on Wednesday. The association said the common test for Ph.D and PG admissions will lead to indirect grading among universities with a few being preferred and the rest being sidelined.

According to association president Battu Satyanarayana, there would be issues in framing common guidelines because the functioning of conventional, technical and other varsities was different. “Universities like Osmania and Kakatiya have affiliated colleges while the Telugu University does not have any. The composition of the Executive Council varies for conventional varsity like OU and a technology university like JNTU. So clubbing all of them under one Act is quite difficult,” he said.

The assocation opposed the idea of common entrance test for PG and Ph.D admissions. “All candidates will prefer Osmania University and not the universities in the districts. The idea of a common test should be scrapped,” Mr Satyanarayana said.
