Panchayat Bypolls in AP Show YSRC is Unbeatable

YSRC won a majority if the Sarpanch seats up for polls

Vijayawada: The ruling YSR Congress Party continued its winning streak in the AP Panchayat by-elections, the results of which were declared on Sunday.

The bypoll was held in 64 villages for the posts of Sarpanch of 66 villages. Among them, 30 Sarpanch posts were unanimously won by the YSRC supporters. YSRC supporters won 23 places in the remaining 34 Sarpanch posts. TD supporters won 10 seats and Jana Sena supporters won one seat.

In the by-elections for ward representatives, 63 seats did not have elections. In 243 wards where elections were held, 149 were won by the YSRC, 90 by the TD and four by Jana Sena supporters.

In all, 1062, including the earlier elections and unanimous elections, YSRC supporters won in 810 places, TD supporters in 182 wards and Jana Sena supporters in seven wards. Election was not held for 63 wards.

Water resources minister Ambati Rambabu, Planning Board vice-chairman Malladi Vishnu and former minister and MLA Vellampalli Srinivas said the results clearly showed complete support to chief minister Jagan Reddy’s welfare-oriented rule.

In the previous municipal, local body and panchayat elections, the YSRC won a majority of the seats in the Kuppam assembly constituency, the bastion of TD. Now also, in the panchayat by-election held in six wards in the Kuppam constituency represented by Chandrababu, the YSRC supporters won five wards.

Upendra Reddy, a YSRC supporter, won the Chalivendula panchayat election in Hindupur constituency represented by TD MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna. Supporters of YSRC have won in Peddapappur, the home mandal of JC Brothers in Tadipatri constituency.

Out of four sarpanch seats in Srikakulam district, YSRC supporters won three seats and TD supporters won one seat. Out of 10 wards where elections were held, YSRC supporters won six seats and TD sympathisers won four seats.

A sarpanch post in Parvathipuram Manyam district was won by YSRC-backed candidate. Candidates supported by YSRC and TD won one each seat for two ward member posts.

In Vizianagaram district, three sarpanch positions were won by candidates supported by YSRC while TD won one seat. IN polls for eight ward members, YSRC supporters won six and TD two.

For three Sarpanch seats in Alluri Sitaramaraju district, candidates supported by YSRC won two and a TD supporter one seat.

Out of 14 ward member polls, 11 YSRC supporters, two TD supporters and one other candidate won. A TD supporter won a sarpanch seat in Anakapalli district. Out of seven ward member posts, YSRC supporters won five seats and TD supporters two.

YSRC supporters won two wards where the elections were held in Visakhapatnam district. In the other districts, YSRC won a majority if the Sarpanch seats up for polls, and wards too, showing its clear dominance.
