Eradicate social evils: K Chandrasekhar Rao to cops

Rs 500 crore for better policing announced

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday asked the police to crack down on food adulteration, fake certificates, notes, passports, stamp papers as well as documents besides gambling dens and matka and sale of gudumba, gutka and other ills plaguing society with an iron hand.

KCR who launched the new flag of the Telangana police, announced Rs 500 crore to city and district police units for purchasing new vehicles and other administrative requirements from the proceeds of the recent sale of government lands for better policing.

He asked police to give top priority to the protection of women and take action against eve teasing, atrocities, and other criminal acts. He announced incentives to police officers who wipe out matka and gudumba from their divisions.

“I thank the police for allowing me to focus on other developmental issues with the good law and order situation in the State. To attract investments, we need safe environs. Telangana police has provided it and is number one in country. I get compliments from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh whenever I visit Delhi,” KCR remarked.

He commented, “They say ‘jiska koi nahi hota, uska Bhagwan hota hai.’ Now we should hear, ‘jiska koi nahi hota, uska Telangana police hota.’

The Chief Minister was addressing the first police conference attended by 1,500 officers from sub inspector rank to DGP at HICC here on Friday. Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Chief Secretary S.P. Singh, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy and other top officials also attended.

KCR said he felt insulted when told at NASSCOM investors meet that out of 100 fake certificates for IT jobs, 80 were from Hyderabad.

“Almost 99 per cent of gudumba (illicit liquor) sale has stopped thanks to Mr Akun Sabharwal. Gambling is almost gone. Matka, Gutka is banned. Be firm on it and other ills and wipe them out,” he said.

The Chief Minister expressed shock at the adulteration of milk, and rice with plastic rice, turmeric, oils and other material.

“Please crack down on adulteration of food stuffs. Don’t have any fear. Wipe them out. It’s dangerous to health. Cannot allow it,” he ordered.

KCR paid special compliments to Mahender Reddy whose name he repeatedly mentioned during his course of address, Civil Supplies commissioner C V Anand for saving Rs 850 crore for the corporation, IG Ms Swathi Lakra for “She teams” and all other officers for splendid work.

Chief Minister recalled the police cooperation during the Telangana movement, adding that police successfully removed the propaganda that Maoists will rule the roost if Telangana State is formed.

He wanted a change in the profile of police though it has earned accolades in the country in maintenance of law and order. “Rich can manage affairs, focus on poor and voiceless people. Police in their jurisdiction should consider people as family members. We need friendly policing,” he remarked.

Referring to GHMC polls, he said TRS won 99 seats in Hyderabad for the first time in history where a party won on the plank of good law and order.
