Houses for Andhra Pradesh employees at Amaravati in 15 months

Around 65.4 acres was handed over to the construction companies.

Vijayawada: 65.4 acres, 61 towers, 3,840 flats, 76.4 lakh sq ft built-up area within 15 months --- this was the picture presented by the CRDA commissioner regarding construction of houses for MLAs, MLCs and all government employees, including the Class IV staff.

The designs have been finalised, layouts approved and on Wednesday, the land has also been handed over to the contractors. The only thing to happen is construction.

The CRDA team, led by its commissioner Ch. Sreedhar, along with the representatives of construction companies, visited the area between Lingayapalem and Nelapadu and the CRDA released the layouts of the flats to be construct and the designs of the towers.

The work was allotted to three companies. Nagarjuna Constructions going to build flats of 3,500 sqft area for MLAs, MLCs and civil service officers. A total of 432 flats would be constructed under this category with a budget of Rs 700 crore.

The second category flats are for non-gazetted officers and they would be built by the L&T company. A total of 1,968 flats of area 1,200 sqft each would be built with a budget of Rs 1,098 crores.

The third and the last category consists of houses for Type 1 and 2 gazetted officers and Class IV employees. For the gazetted officers, flats each having 1,500 sft area would be built while those of the Class IV employees, will be of 900 sft area. The budget for the third category flats is '854 crore and the works were awarded to Shapoorji Pallonji company.

The CRDA commissioner said the companies have to complete the construction within 15 months.

Later, the officials also visited the Vykuntha-puram temple atop Krounchagiri hill. The priests performed special pujas to Lord Balaji and explained about the availability of land and the temple's history.

APCRDA additional commissioners S Shanmohan and B.L. Chennakesava Rao, housing chief engineer M.A. Shukoor and other officials accompanied the CRDA chief.
