‘Smart IDs’ for students of government and aided schools: R Duraikannu

Nearly 70 publishers have put up 101 stalls and displayed their books in the fair which will go on till August 26.

THANJAVUR: A total of 1,24,463 smart identity cards will be distributed to students studying in government and government-aided schools in Thanjavur district, said R. Duraikannu, Agriculture minister here, on Saturday.

He inaugurated the ‘Thanjavur book fair’ at the palace grounds and distributed smart identity cards to a few students marking the inauguration of distribution of cards. He said that the fair is organised to help students to improve their reading habit and gain knowledge.

“Books on preparing for competitive examinations like Group I, Group II services are on display in the book exhibition. Students can purchase them and pass examinations by good preparation,” the minister said.

Nearly 70 publishers have put up 101 stalls and displayed their books in the fair which will go on till August 26. The fair will be open for public from 11 am to 9 pm every day.

T.Venkatesan, president of Thanjavur Rotary Club of Kings handed over a cheque for `five lakh to the minister for taking up desilting work at Rani Samudram lake at the function.

R. Vaithilingam, MP, A.Annadurai, Thanjai district collector, participated.
