Work on Polavaram gets thumbs up

Rajahmundry: A nine-member delegation of the parliamentary standing committee on water resources chaired by Hukum Singh inspected the progress of the Polavaram irrigation project and expressed satisfaction over the pace of works.

Speaking on the occasion, the chairman Hukum Singh appreciated the vision of the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in taking up the Polavaram national project in an expeditious manner keeping in mind its benefits at the national level.

"We anticipate that the state may witness surplus water in the country by 2019 given its vision in taking up several irrigation projects to optimize the usage of water to meet its needs," Mr Singh said.

Rajahmundry MP M. Murali Mohan said that the Chief Minister of AP had briefed the delegation about the execution of the Polavaram project at his camp office the other day. He added that the delegation inspected the ongoing works of the project.

Minister for water resources department Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said that the panel members inspected the spillway concrete works and making of radial gates.

Water resources department principal secretary Sasi Bhushan and Polavaram project superintending engineer V.S. Ramesh Babu explained to the delegation about the ongoing works and the benefits that will be derived once the project gets completed in the stipulated time.
