Guest column: BDA lacks a mobility planner

BDA is going ahead with the steel flyover project based on a DPR prepared by engineering consultants.

Members of the Congress government's own Bengaluru Vision Group like Kiran Mazumdar Shah, V. Ravichandar and R.K. Misra are against the proposed steel bridge from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal. When members of a body which advises the government are against the project, there’s clearly something not right with it.

In fact, there is unanimity against the steel bridge. It is being opposed on technical grounds and the public too has made its opposition clear. Moreover, the BDA has no mobility planner on its board. So then how did it come up with a plan for a steel flyover without such an expert to guide it ?

Although the job of preparing a Detailed Project Report for the steel bridge was given to STUP consultants, they not are not involved in mobility but in engineering. Despite the lack of expertise in the field, the BDA is going ahead with the project based on a DPR prepared by engineering consultants.

And while it claims to have consulted the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) while designing the project, media reports suggest otherwise. All these are good reasons for the project be cancelled. Now it is upto the government to decide.
