E P Jayarajan puts party in a fix

Kodiyeri categorically stated at the media persons about Jayarjan admitting his lapse.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former minister E.P. Jayarajan's statement in Assembly on Monday that not even a single appointment had been made illegally by him is diametrically opposite to what Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said about his role after the crucial state secretariat meeting last week.

The opening remarks of the CPM state secretary at the press conference after the secretariat meeting in AKG Centre were; Comrade E.P. Jayarjanan has openly admitted lapses in the appointment of his close relative to the post of MD of a PSU before the secretariat. To uphold the dignity and pride of the party, Government and to prove that the Left was different from other parties in such matters, comrade Jayarjan has offered to step down from the Cabinet. The secretariat had accepted his request."

While Kodiyeri categorically stated at the media persons about Jayarjan admitting his lapse, the Kannur strongman till now has not taken such a stand in public. In the statement issued after resignation from Cabinet and the statement made in House he said there was nothing wrong in the appointments made by him. Jayarajan’s statement has clearly landed the CPM in fix.

The opposition UDF is up in arms over the contradictions in the statements made by Jayarajan and Kodiyeri. Since the state secretariat was entrusted by the CPM central leadership to discuss and decide on the appointment issue, there is little chance of Kodiyeri drifting away from the original script at the press conference. It was neither a slip of the tongue nor off the cuff remark. CPM state secretary had not once but twice reiterated that Jayarajan had admitted lapse on his part. So the question is if Jayarajan had not committed any lapse then why did he resign ? Hope the vigilance will have an answer.
