Gusts slam Hyderabad, Tricolor at Sanjeevaiah park damaged

Windspeeds dipped later to 18 kmph and temperature on Wednesday was 32.7°C.

Hyderabad: Strong winds lashed the city on Wednesday, till noon. The maximum wind velocity recorded at the ground level was 35 kilometers per hour. But it was higher in elevated areas.

The massive Tricolor at Sanjeevaiah park was damaged once again and it took hours to bring down the flag — with personnel struggling against the gusts. The winds at that height were registering speeds of 55 kilometer per hour. But towards the evening, windspeeds dropped down to 18 kmph. Also on Wednesday, the maximum temperature reported was 32.7ºC.

According to the Met department: “The depression over Northwest Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards and lay centered about 160 km east of Balasore (Odisha) on August 17. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and cross the West Bengal coast close to Digha. Also, the trough on sea-level chart now runs from the system to South Tamil Nadu across, along and off Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Westerly winds are moving into the state.”

Except for the first five days of August, the remaining days saw no trace of rain. As on August 17, Hyderabad has received 20 per cent less rainfall than the month’s average.
