Roopa Moudgil rebelled as she didn't get additional charge, says DGP Rao

Ms Moudgil had even argued with Mr Rao over not getting the additional responsibilities even after approaching the Home Department.

Bengaluru: Before being sent on a compulsory leave ahead of his retirement on July 31, DG H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao, who is accused of taking Rs 2 crore bribe to provide preferential treatment to jailed AIADMK leader V. Sasikala, has submitted a report to the Home Department explaining his position and developments since DIG D. Roopa Moudgil assumed charge as DIG (Prisons).

In the report, Mr Rao has said that the furore Ms Moudgil has kicked up at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison was due to the fact that she did not get the additional responsibilities she had sought.

According to the report, she wanted the responsibilities of prisons in Ballari, Belagavi, Dharwad and Kalaburagi in addition to the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison and open jail and women’s prison in Tumakuru.

Ms Moudgil had even argued with Mr Rao over not getting the additional responsibilities even after approaching the Home Department. She had been served with three notices for violating Supreme Court norms during the Roopantara programme at the Tumakuru Prison, attending a news channel panel discussion and uploading pictures of convicts on her Facebook account and absconding from the review meeting held by the chief minister on July 10. That is the reason she leaked the letter to the media in which she had falsely accused Mr Rao of taking a bribe, the report alleged.
