Election officials and income tax department sleuths raided the school premises.

Krishnagiri: The Sri Vidya Mandir Matric Higher Secondary School that produced two state toppers in plus-2 exam results released on Tuesday was in the news for wrong reasons just before the May 16 elections.

Election officials and income tax department sleuths raided the school premises and confiscated Rs 3.40 cr and also 125 grams of gold coins on May 9. The cash and gold coins were suspected to be stashed away for distribution to the voters in Uthangarai.

However, the school management claimed that the money was collected from the students and the gold coin was stored for gifting teachers if the school students secured state ranks.

The IT sleuths unconvinced by the claim confiscated the cash and the gold. It is believed to be in the custody of the IT department. When asked about the seizure, the Krishnagiri district collector, C.
