Five Hyderabad boys drowned in Pendlipakala reservoir

None of the children knew swimming and drowned one after the other in the reservoir.

Hyderabad: Five boys aged below 10 and from one family accidentally drowned in the Pendlipakala reservoir in Nalgonda district on Saturday. The incident happened a day before Ugadi festival.

The deceased were identified as Nenavath Satvik, 9, and his younger brother Navadeep, 7, their cousins Santosh, 9, Rakesh, 7 and Shiva, 9.

They were the children of three brothers of Guditanda from Pendlipakala village in Kondamallepalle mandal in the district.

Satvik and Navadeep were the only children of their parents, while Santosh and Rakesh as also Shiva had a sister.

The children studying in the private schools in the neighbouring villages had returned home by noon on Saturday. They came out into the streets to play and moved towards the reservoir and fell into it. None of them knew swimming and drowned one after the other.

Villagers working in the vicinity heard the cry of the boys and rushed to the reservoir and could only pull out their bodies.

A case had been booked under Section 174 and the bodies were handed over after autopsy.
