Shuhaib murder: Cops comb party villages

SIT to probe activities of convicts on parole.

Kannur: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the killing of Youth Congress block secretary S.P. Shuhaib in Mattannur conducted surprise combing operations in party villages. Many sleepy villages including Mudakkozhimala under Malur, Muzhakunnu station limits were searched on Saturday. SP G. Shiva Vikram led the raids. The SIT has also decided to look into whether any convicts on parole were involved in the killer gang, according to sources. The serious allegation that those on parole were involved in the incident was made by Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday.

Interestingly, 19 convicts including Kodi Suni, T.K Rajeesh and M.C Anoop, the convicts in the sensational T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case, were on parole for 15 days after January 25. “We have not received any complaint to probe the activities of those who were on parole. But that will also be covered as a part of the probe,” said a member of the SIT. Iritty DySP Prajeesh Thottathil is heading the SIT. IG Mahipal Yadav had stated that preliminary investigations had hinted at CPM involvement in the murder.

Significantly, Mudakozhimala was the hideout of the Kodi Suni-led gang which killed Chandrasekharan. Meanwhile, students led by KSU conducted a protest in front of Mattannur police station on Saturday demanding the arrest of the culprits. Kozhikode DCC President T. Siddique inaugurated the protest. “Police are groping in the dark even after six days of the chilling murder. The officers are conniving with the perpetrators,” alleged KSU state president K.M Abhijit.
