THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It’s been over a decade since A. Badruddin, a sixty-year-old hailing from Vizhinjam, started his fight to legalise his home, which has a UA (unauthorised) number.
Mr Badruddin, who came to the Adalat organised by the town planning wing of the city corporation, continues his effort for getting a TC number from the civic body.
“I am an uneducated person, and I never knew the difference between a UA number and TC number. I constructed home with financial aid from the government on the four-cent land I had at Vizhinjam. After construction, I was granted a UA number from the Vizhinjam Zonal office,” says Mr Badruddin, who live on daily wages.
“I am a heart patient and have met these officials umpteen times but failed to get a response. I hope today they will do something about this.”
“If my building was unauthorised why the government gives me financial aid,” he adds.
He is one among many who arrived at the corporation office to settle their issues relating to TC numbers and other permit related ones. Sarojini Bhaskaran, an 89-year-old from Peroorkada, came to get the TC number for her recently constructed commercial building.
“It’s been four months since we gave the request for a TC number. My son took a large loan to construct the building, and we are unable to get water and power connections because of this. We are in huge debt,” says Ms Bhaskaran.
The Adalat received 61 applications and settled 41 relating to TC numbers. It also gave building permits to five and decided to issue unauthorised numbers to five others. It rejected three applications.
