Kerala cyber cops step up vigil on Blue Whale gamers

Since there are no online applications for Blue Whale Challenge it was nearly impossible to prevent it in the cyber world by investigators.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan raised an alert against Blue Whale Challenge and the Kerala State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights sought the government’s report over alleged links to a couple of recent suicides with the game, the state police is yet to get any trace of the globally infamous game taking any lives in the state.

According to police sources, since there are no online applications for Blue Whale Challenge it was nearly impossible to prevent it in the cyber world by investigators.

“Blue Whale Challenge is a sort of cyber bullying through any social media and online chat platforms. The challenge would be given by an anonymous person posing as Blue Whale administrators or tutors. It is nearly impossible for the police or any cyber investigators to scan the infinite number of chats. The only option for the cyber police is to track anyone posing as Blue Whale administrators or tutor, which the state cyber police and Cyberdome have been doing ever since reports of Blue Whale Challenge’s presence in Kerala came in,” said a senior police officer.

State Police Chief Loknath Behera on Wednesday also told reporters here on Wednesday that there was no need to panic as no instances of Blue Whale Challenge in the state could be confirmed yet.

Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, who recently took up the Blue Whale issue with Centre, hailed the Centre’s fresh decision to direct all major social media platforms to remove any links to Blue Whale Challenge. In a fresh social media post, the Chief Minister urged the people to alert the police of any links to the game on the cyber world to the police.

Meanwhile, Commission for the Protection of Child Rights suo motu registered a case in the wake of reports linking couple of suicide cases in the state with Blue Whale Challenge.
