Hyderabad: R&B's warning on road crater falls on deaf ears

But what is angering the public is a letter addressed by the Executive Engineer of R&B department to the GHMC in January this year.

Hyderabad: Bad luck seems to be trailing the employees working in the financial district. The key radial road in Nallagandla through which the traffic from Wipro circle was being rerouted, has now developed a giant crater, forcing the road to be partially closed. The traffic now has to move through a ‘kacha’ road amidst the bushes.

But what is angering the public is a letter addressed by the Executive Engineer of R&B department to the GHMC in January this year. The letter states that there is a major drainage issue with drain water flowing from a nearby colony and restaurant onto the roads, creating a major crater. It also specifies that the road would be developed as a six-lane road, but none of which has happened so far.

“My tyre has developed a slit after I tried to navigate through this ditch. This is utter failure of planning. Authorities should have fixed alternate routes before starting the white topping,” said Mr Uma Mahesh. The authorities are helpless too. “We can’t take immediate repairs as the road belongs to R&B,” says Deputy Commissioner, Ms Mamtha V.

The road has a one-foot big crater that is getting worse with the rains and the drain inflows. It is angled at a road turn, making it a high risk spot for accidents. “The work has been delayed because this drain is not connected to the disposal line in Tellapur,” says Executive Engineer Mr Sudarshan. The GHMC has allocated over 90 lakhs to fix the issue.
