Kids gallery in Salarjung Museum soon

It is 15 km from Secunderabad Railway Station, 11 km from MG Bus.

Hyderabad: Salarjung Museum is set to have an all-new Children’s Gallery. Children will not only see and enjoy an array of artefacts and dolls but also get to play virtual versions of games like basketball or catch butterflies.

Museum authorities are bracing up to open the refurbished gallery with several new additions including ones that have been kept in museum reserves and a virtual games section.

Salarjung Museum is also trying to put back on the rails a unique electric toy train made by US-based Lionel Corporation, which specialised in toy trains and model railroads way back in 1920s.

South Central Railway authorities have been requested to repair the toy train which was lying idle for over a decade. “You will see a whole lot of new additions that will be educative as well as entertaining for children. Work is going on in full swing and the gallery might be opened by month-end or next month,’’ Dr A Nagender Reddy,

Director of Salarjung Museum told Deccan Chronicle that the Bangalore based Visvevaraya Industrial and Technological Museum is providing the virtual games.

Khasim Ali Khan, a scion of the Salarjung family, who is also the architect of Islamic Gallery which is to be opened soon, has designed the children’s gallery. About '50 lakh is being spent on the renovation.

“We plan to put on display 5,500 items. Barring virtual games, all other items are from Salarjung collections. The present children’s gallery on the ground floor will be shifted to the first floor,’’ he said.
