CRPF works hard to make polls successful

Dhas has been travelling for the last 42 days covering three states Assam, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

Chennai: Meet H. P. Dhas, of Tirupura associated with CRPF team headquartered in Assam. On Monday, his shift started by 5 in the morning. He was seen commanding his troop of six throughout the day at high profile R K Nagar, where CM Jayalalithaa is a candidate.

At 9 pm, when the sealed EVMs were handed over to the counting station at Queen Marry’s college to another group command there was a sign of relief on his face.

Dhas has been travelling for the last 42 days covering three states Assam, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. On Tuesday, he will leave for his hometown to spend time with his family after three months. Like Dhas, thousands of paramilitary staff who trooped into Tamil Nadu have been braving TN’s weather conditions to make the state polls’ a success without any major violence. “I have heard that Tamil Nadu is a peaceful state and now I experienced it during my week long stay in R K Nagar,” said another CRPF personnel Siv Govind Chavan with a rifle in one hand cooking the night meals for his colleagues.

When asked about the arrangements and facilities provided by the state administration to a paramilitary guard Nanda Kumar Thakur, he said, “We are trained for difficult conditions. They also took care of us well sparring the first day, when we were clueless about our stay and beat area.”
