Bengaluru: As part of the funding of the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) to BWSSB, a sewage treatment plant (STP), with a capacity of 60 Million Litres Per Day (MLD), was inaugurated at Kengeri on Friday.
The STP would process the sewage generated in the area of V-Valley, thereby prevent the entry of sewage into the V-Valley river. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also laid the foundation stone for the Cauvery Water Supply Phase 1, which will ensure an additional 775 MLD to the city as well as sewage network facility for 110 villages which have recently come under the BBMP limits.
The STP is being constructed by Degremont & Degremont Pvt Ltd at a cost of Rs 239.01 crore. The BWSSB will carry the project with the aid from
JICA. The water supply project will cost Rs 3,087 crore.
The 110 villages are in the zones of Byatarayanapura, Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli and Rajarajeshwari Nagar. Seven ground level reservoirs at Gottigere, Doddakannahalli, Kadugodi, Chokkanahalli, Vasudevapura, Singapura, Lingadevarahalli for a capacity of 460 million litres and 14 STP's of a total capacity of 129 MLD will also be created with a cost of more than Rs 5,000 crore.
