Kunjananthan deserves no reprieve: K K Rema

The move by the government comes in the light of the convict turning 70.

KOZHIKODE: K.K. Rema, widow of slain RMPI leader T.P. Chandrasekharan, has opposed the state government's move to give a reprieve to the 13th accused in the murder P.K. Kunjananthan. She said that the move would be fought legally and it would be an injustice to let Mr Kunjananthan come out of prison. The move by the government comes in the light of the convict turning 70. The inquiry on his release was given to the Kannur police chief. The SI at Kolavallur police station took statements from the affected parties including Ms. Rema.

The statement of the relatives of the victim is crucial in allotting the reprieve to convicts. Mr Kunjananthan has been out on parole for 301 days and of that, 211 days were when the current LDF government took over. In nine months alone, he has got parole for 211 days. He had attended the Panoor Kunnoth Paramba local conference, in violation of the parole rules.
