Ariyalur: Jawan Sivachandran laid to rest with full military honours

Military personnel fired 21 rounds in the air as mark of respect to the brave, departed soul.

Ariyalur: The body of C. Sivachandran (33) a CRPF jawan hailing from Ariyalur district and who was one among the killed in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, was laid to rest at his native village of Kargudi, with full military honours on Saturday. Military personnel fired 21 rounds in the air as mark of respect to the brave, departed soul.

Earlier, a large number of people including State Touirism minister Vellamandi Natrajan, Government’s Chief whip Thamarai S.Rajendran Chidambaram MP, M. Maruthakasi, Ariyalur collector Ms. M. Vijayalakshmi and top police officials paid their last respects to Sivachandran.

Later, Mr. Vellamandi Natrajan, Thamarai S. Rajendran Chidambaram Maruthakasi and Ms. Vijayalakshmi together handed over a cheque for Rs 20 lakh, as solatium announced by the Tamil Nadu Government on Friday to the family members of the deceased CRPF Jawan.

Earlier when the body of Sivachandran arrived at Tiruchy airport, Union Defence Minister Dr Nirmala Seetharaman and her cabinet colleague Anandakumar Hegde, State ministers, Vellamandi Natrajan and Mrs. Valarmathi, Tiruchy collector K. Rajamani, State BJP President Tamilisai Soundararajan, Chiefs of the three armed forces, top police and CRPF officials, a large number of members of the public and others paid their homage to the body of Sivachandran by placing wreaths on it.
