Alappuzha: Court orders arrest of Rahul Easwer

Mr Easwer said that he could not reach the police station in time because his flight from Delhi on that day was late.

Alappuzha: A court in Ranni on Saturday ordered the arrest of Hindu Dharma Sena leader Rahul Easwer, revoking the bail granted to him for violating bail conditions.

He was out on bail in a case for obstructing the police and inciting violence at Pampa on October 17 following the Supreme Court verdict allowing the entry of young women in the Sabarimala temple.

He was charged with IPC section 144 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), read with 149 (member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecuting of common object of the assembly), and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public serving from discharge of duty).

He was later granted bail on conditions, including reporting to the Pampa police station every Saturday. The police moved the court after he failed to report to them on Saturday, December 8. Following this, the court revoked his bail and ordered his arrest.

Mr Easwer said that he could not reach the police station in time because his flight from Delhi on that day was late.

He also said that he would approach the Kerala High Court as well as the Human Rights Commission against the order on Monday.

A mob of protesters led by Rahul Easwer and his supporters had vandalised vehicles, attacked women journalists and pelted stones at police officials at Pampa and Nilakkal on October 17.
