2,290 Candidates Vie for Assembly Seats in Hyderabad, LB Nagar Tops List

Hyderabad: The Election Commission said on Thursday that 2,290 candidates were in the fray for the Assembly polls on November 30, and the LB Nagar constituency accounted for the most, 48.

According to the data, 2,898 nominations were found valid, while 608 candidates withdrew their nominations, bringing down the total number of contestants to 2,290.

The ECI will arrange for additional EVMs (electronic voting machines), ranging from two to five, in 55 constituencies as the number of candidates is beyond the single-machine threshold of 16.

In Hyderabad, more than 16 candidates are in the electoral fray in LB Nagar, Nampally, Amberpet, Jubilee Hills, Khairatabad, Malakpet, Musheerabad, Secunderabad, Ibrahimpatnam and Serilingampalli constituencies.

In Medchal, the largest constituency, 67 nominations were found valid, but 45 withdrew their nominations, leaving 22 in the contest.

Gajwel (44), Kamareddy (39) and LB Nagar (48) were among the constituencies with the most candidates, while Balkonda (8), Naraspur (11) and Banswada (7) were at the other end of the spectrum.
