Visakhapatnam advocates pay tribute to Cornelia Sorabji

Senior advocate Manju Lata said that Sorabji was inspiration to advocates to work hard and fight for women's rights.

Visakhapatnam: City-based female advocates on Tuesday paid tributes to Cornelia Sorabji, the first woman to graduate in law from India, on the occasion of her birth anniversary. Senior advocate Manju Lata said that Sorabji was inspiration to advocates to work hard and fight for women’s rights. Additional district public prosecutor T. Sujatha and former public prosecutor N.V.R. Vijay Lakshmi participated in the event. Forum of legal professionals’ president Kuppili Muralidhar attended as guest of honour.

Advocates, judicial officers, and staff participated in a bike rally on Wednesday morning from District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) building to RK Beach and back on the eve of the National Legal Services Week from November 9 to 18. Chairperson of DLSA and principal district judge P.V. Jyotirmai flagged off the rally. He said, “Sorabji was a champion of human rights. She had courage of conviction to differ with Mahatma Gandhi on certain issues. She had always worked for the empowerment of women.”
