Yadgir: With a view to make the availability of sand easier to the common man, who are facing a lot of problems in procuring sand for construction activity, the state government is evolving a new policy. This was disclosed by Minister for Mines and Geology and Muzrai, Rajashekhar Patil Humnabad.
During an interaction with the media after hoisting the national flag here, Mr Humnabad said: "We have information that the state governments of Telangana, Gujarat and Rajasthan have evolved some policies for sand, granite and marble mining in their respective states. We have formed various committees for studying the rules and procedures prevailing in these states. These committees are expected to submit their reports within a week. After getting the reports we will evolve a new policy", Mr Patil explained.
Further he said that he had tried to seek the chief minister's consent for evolving a new sand mining policy. “The CM had given us an appointment for discussing the issue on August 8. But due to the passing away of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi, the meeting was postponed. I have sought a meeting with him again”, Mr Patil said.
When the Minister's attention was drawn to rampant illegal sand mining in some districts including Yadgir, Mr Patil said that he would make the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police responsible for curbing the mining.
