Karnataka: Coastal districts on boil, now girl's hand slashed

Sources said the girl was stopped by the men who came on a bike and slashed her palms with a knife before fleeing.

Honnavar: There is no let-up in the tension in Karnataka's coast with Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district witnessing anxious moments after a high school girl was allegedly injured by two people. The region has been on the boil after the killing of 19 year old youth, Paresh Mesta, whom the BJP claims, was its worker. His father denies it.

Sources said the girl was stopped by the men who came on a bike and slashed her palms with a knife before fleeing. The reason for the incident is not clear but rumours are doing the rounds that members of another community are behind the attack.

Following the incident, shops downed shutters in Honnavar. As many as 28 cases have been registered by the cops in Uttar Kannada district against those sending provocative messages on social media.

Meanwhile, Kamalakar Mesta, father of Paresh, told Deccan Chronicle that the state government has done the right thing in handing over the case pertaining to his son's death to the CBI. “I have no faith in the local police,” he said.
