Big task for ACB to prove charges against Seelam Surya Chandrasekhar Azad

Accused officer covers his tracks well, say ACB officials.

Vijayawada: Seelam Surya Chandrasekhar Azad, accused officer in the disproportionate assets case, has been accused by the ACB and is facing seven cases from the vigilance department. Even officials are surprised, despite knowing the depth of Azad’s corru-ption, that there is so little material evidence against him. For instance, the lockers in Canara Bank were opened by the ACB officials, where they found only half a kilo of gold. The ACB Court has remanded him for 15 days.

Chandrasekhar Azad had taken precautions from the date the raids happened on endowments assistant commissioner Vijaya Raju on October 24, 2017, as per the ACB officials’ assessment. That is why the raids did not unearth a huge quantity of gold or cash. Vivekananda, brother of Chandrasekhar Azad, said he didn’t have the key of his bank locker. Now the ACB officials are writing a letter to the bank to get the details of whatever was kept in that locker. Chandrasekhar Azad worked as an advocate before entering the government service.

His wife is a High Court advocate and his brother is also an advocate. A very senior advocate is Azad’s guru. Because of this background, Azad continued in the service, despite having seven cases against him. He bailed himself out using his legal options. K. Raju, ACB DSP, Eluru, said, “Azad is very clever. He had taken all the precautions to keep himself safe from any raids or any cases. “But our one year of homework succeeded in tracing his properties. We are getting many calls about his ‘benami’ properties and we are enquiring about them.”

Chandrasekhar Azad worked as an EO to Sri Durga Malleswara Devasta-nam, at the time of the Krishna Pushkaralu prepa-ratory period. He monitored all the expansion works. His corruption was mainly in the area of contract works for temples and the recruitment of employees. His subordinates complained that he used to harass them, by stopping their salaries. At one time, he even suspended 60 employees!

In Srisailam temple, he recruited 30 employees without considering their qualifications. All these complaints ha-ve been turned into cases. He has been fighting all these cases, till now.
