Day 5: Air show, yoga dazzle

As part of the six-day Yoga Dasara, over 1500 Mysureans performed Surya Namaskara at the palace premises on Sunday morning.

Mysuru: The fifth day of Dasara was packed with nine major attractions which included the Dasara air show held on a small scale at Bannimantap ground here on Sunday morning.

A Chetak/ALH from ASTE dropped petals while a MI-17 from 112 HU carried out slithering operations. An AN-32 carried out sky diving exercises with nine personnel of the Akash team.

Deputy CM G. Parameshwar, who is the home minister, participated in the police band concert and received the guard of honour. Noted playback singer Dr S.P. Balasubramanyam performed in front of the illuminated Mysuru Palace while at the Yuva Dasara, noted Bollywood singer, Arman Malik enthralled over 35,000 people. A fashion show of Mysuru silk sarees was hosted at Yuva Dasara.

More than 20 varieties of dogs and other pets participated in the pet show hosted at the hockey grounds of University of Mysuru. As part of the three-day Arts and Crafts Dasara, an exhibition of paintings and sculptures was held at Suchitra art gallery. A 3D projection show of the history and heritage of Mysuru was held in front of the Town Hall and will be held every evening till October 18.

With Mysuru teeming with tourists, 90 percent of the hotel rooms were occupied on Saturday and Sunday. Already, almost 90 percent of the rooms are booked for the last two days of the Dasara festivities, according to Mysuru hotel owners association head Mr Narayangowda.
