Bengaluru: Hundreds of residents formed a silent human chain at Marathahalli, registering their protest against the city's crumbling infrastructure. The protest, organised by the Outer Ring Road Marathahalli Residents’ Association, witnessed over 500 people from children to youngsters to elders, registering their protest demanding the basic infrastructure for a decent living.
Residents slammed the BBMP for failing to keep the drains clear and roads commutable. They pinned to their chest the placards that read: “We want basic infrastructure road, water and drain", "We need to walk, not skywalk", "We demand a decent atmosphere" and "Swachh Bharat begins at home, our homes are clean but roads are not".
The protest started at 9 am, and within minutes hundreds of residents poured in, stretching the human chain for up to 2 km.
Venting her anger against the civic body, Ms Meena Kumari, a Marathahalli resident, said, “How do you feel if your house gets flooded with sewage water when it rains? Will BBMP officials and politicians stay if their house is in this condition? Will they not immediately find the root cause and fix the problem?”
Others said the city has received record rainfall, but authorities have failed to provide basic amenities.
