Residents to certify all repaired roads in Hyderabad

GHMC starts repairs with photo checks.

Hyderabad: The GHMC has restored the damaged stretch from Kondapur to Madhapur and has sought residents’ signatures certifying the work. GHMC will take the before and after photographs of restored roads.

Black-topped patchwork was done at Madhapur main road near e-park, Tata building and the stretch from Gachibowli to Kothaguda junction and Kothaguda to Shilpa-ramam. Roads in Rangmahal, Troop Bazaar, Afzalnagar in Old Malakpet awere repaired.

Work at Banjara Hills Road No, 13 and Jubilee Hills Road No. 9 will be carried out at night.

GHMC commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy said all roads must be inspected by executive and superintendent engineers. Inspections by third party engineers and JNTU professors must be held regularly.

The GHMC-mandated boards showing work details including cost, length of the road, time of completion and executing agency are to be displayed at the site. Before laying of roads, the dust should be removed and it must be ensured that traffic is not allowed to ply on newly laid roads immediately.

The GHMC commissioner ordered officials to coordinate with their traffic police, Metro Rail, Water Works and Transco counterparts.

He said signatures of nearby citizens must be taken regarding the work. Photographs of the road before it was laid, and after the work must be taken.
Assistant engineers must stay at work site to inspect the work done, he added.

Techies bear traffic woes in I.T. corridor

The recent rain has severely damaged roads, while incomplete works and road-widening have made travel miserable in the IT corridor.

Due to the poor traffic management on alternative roads, techies struggle to move past spots where work is going on for Strategic Road Development Project and Metro Rail at Raheja Mindspace, Ayyappa Society Junction and Gachibowli.

Tolichowki to Raidurgam, Gachibowli and Hitec City are the major corridors as the techies come from Mehdipatnam, Mallepally and Old City.

The government had approved proposals to widen the Tolichowki-Raidurgam road to six lanes and the GHMC even acquired land for the purpose but works are still pending.

The GHMC temporarily widened the road from Brindavan Colony to Adityanagar, but the roadsides are occupied by vendors. The delay in work on a culvert on Shaikpet nala is blocking road-widening. Land was acquired at Dwarakanagar but again the road has not been widened.

Mr M.A. Shafiuddin, who stays in the Old City and travels to Mindspace, said because of the traffic jams it took up to half an hour to cover a distance of 1 km.

“We need more patience while travelling from Shaikpet nala to Raidurgam. We have no alternative except the Filmnagar road, whose condition is worse,” he said.

The road was developed from two-lane to four-lane in 2000 during the National Games in Gachibowli stadium and further developed in 2005 during the Congress plenary.

GHMC chief engineer for projects K. Suresh Kumar said land acquisition was pending at a few points for two-and-a-half years.

“The Krishna water project pipeline works are also going on. Once land acquisition and the pipeline works complete, we begin widening the roads,” he said.
