ALAPPUZHA: Election Commission said that as many as 17 candidates will contest in the Chengannur assembly bypoll to be held on May 28 with the last date for withdrawal of candidature on Monday. According to EC, three nominations were withdrawn.
Those contesting the poll include; D. Vijayakumar (Congress), Saji Cherian (CPI (M)), P.S. Sreedharan Pillai (BJP), Rajiv Pallath (Aam Aadmi Party), Jiji Poonthala (Rashtriya Lok Dal), Madhu Chengannur (Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist)), Subhash Naga (Ambedkarite Party of India), Aji M. Chalakkeri (Independent), Unni Karthikeyan (Independent), M.C. Jayalal (Independent), Murali Naga, Mohanan Achary (Independent), Sivaprasad Gandhi K. M. , Sreedharan Pillai, A.K. Shaji, Somanatha Warrier T. K. and Swami Sukhakash Saraswathy, all independents.
