It has launched a unique initiative meant to enhance the academic performance of 10th standard students.

MALAPPURAM: The Devadhar Government Higher Secondary School in Tanur has launched a unique initiative meant to enhance the academic performance of 10th standard students. Under the programme named Care, Share and Fair, the students have been grouped into three according to their performance in the first midterm examinations. “This effort is to provide subject-wise attention to all the needy students. There are 799 students who will appear in the next SSLC exam. Our target is to attain 100 per cent result this year. Under this programme, we are giving subject-wise attention to each student who is below average,” says Sajeev T, academic coordinator of the school.

Devadhar came first among the Government schools in the state in the number of students who sat for the SSLC examinations last year. The Care group consists of students who performed below average and who need intensive care. Share group includes average students and Fair group are the performers. “This is not a random grouping. We are providing them subject-wise attention. Now we are taking additional classes after school hours. From January, there will be full day specialised classes for them,” Sajeev said.

The programme is a customized part of theVijayabheri project of the district panchayath. Sheeba T and Jibina B, the coordinators of Vijayabheri at the school are the two teachers who manage the implementation of Care, Share and Fair programme. Besides teachers of the High school section, even those of the Higher Secondary section of the school have joined the programme to provide special classes to the students. The initiative also utilises the service of former teachers of the school. “Teachers from outside have made a positive impact among students and it has reflected in the result as well,” Sajeev said.
