Hyderabad: The continued protests of students of the University of Hyderabad has borne fruit as the University has decided to keep the suspension order in abeyance until a further decision is taken. The students were suspended for periods ranging from six months to two years for protests when officials were checking hostels and found a female student in a men’s hostel. The student union had asked the administration to allow the students to take their end semester exams that are currently being held in the University.
“We have decided to allow the students to take their end semester exams if they meet the requirements of attendance, practical marks and so on,” said an official of the university. Students union president Sreerag P. said, “Normalcy should be restored to the campus. UoH is the first university that punished an elected GSCash representative for doing her duty on the night of the incident.”
The statement released by the student union said, “While UoH recently clarified that they are one of the most gender conscious campuses, they also used the words, ‘The warden discovered a girl,’ which is highly problematic.” The students were planning to continue their protests when the administration released a statement that said: “The 10 students have appealed to the Vice Chancellor. He has decided to refer the matter to the appellate authority, the EC scheduled to meet on December 02, 2017.”
Pending consideration of their appeal, the university has decided to keep the suspension order in abeyance until the matter is disposed by the appellate authority."The students held a cultural protest on Monday where songs of resistance were sung in various languages.
