Drainage water pollutes Amaravati Pushkar ghat

A canal was dug to supply water to the Dhyana Buddha ghat but the water supply was stopped on Saturday.

Amaravati: The drainage water is mixing in the Pushkar ghat at old Amaravati causing severe inconvenience to the devotees and hurting their sentiments.

They are demanding diversion of drainage pipe from the ghat till completion of Krishna Pushkaralu. Amaravati Development Authority chairman J. Veeranjaneyulu lamented that according to the Hindu religion, holy dips should be taken in clean flowing water, but the pipes are releasing drainage water into the ghats at Dhyana Buddha ghat and Amareswara temple ghat.

He lamented the mixing of drainage water into Krishna river is contaminating the river water and the waters cannot be used for Pushkar rituals.

He said that the local officials temporarily stopped mixing of water into the ghat but allowed drainage water into Krishna river, which is hurting the sentiments of the devotees. Mr Veeranjaneyulu demanded that the government immediately stop the release of drainage water into the Krishna river.

Meanwhile, the devotees were forced to take a sho-wer bath due to the abse-nce of water in the 1.5 km-long Dhyana Buddha ghat at old Amaravati.

A canal was dug to supply water to the Dhyana Buddha ghat but the water supply was stopped on Saturday. Besides this, water was not available in the temporary toilets which troubled the devotees to go for nature call, mainly women.
