The starred questions are to be answered on the floor of the House and unstarred ones require written replies.

Thiruvananthapuram: Higher education minister K.T. Jaleel has shied away from answering questions on University College, according to the Assembly records.

V.K. Ibrahim Kunju (Muslim League) and M. Vincent (Congress) had asked unstarred questions on June 12 on the number of students who had sought TC from the college and the complaints submitted by the students on harassment.

The starred questions are to be answered on the floor of the House and unstarred ones require written replies. The answers to all questions are also uploaded on the website of the Kerala Assembly.

However, the answers to question number 1712 raised by Vincent and 1713 by Ibrahim Kunju were not uploaded even after the last session of the Assembly ended on July 4. Both the questions had three parts.

Vincent asked: (a) Has the fact that one eighth of the students who join the college discontinue their studies after seeking transfer certificate come to your attention?

(b) Is it true that the reasons for them to seek transfer certificate was the fact that there was no climate favourable for academics?

(c) Can you disclose the number of students who discontinued their studies after taking transfer certificates in 2016-17 and 2017-18?

Ibrahim Kunju’s queries: (a): Has any parent complained about the mental harassment faced by students?

(b) If so what was the step taken to redress this complaint?

(c) Will the government take steps to keep out students from the college campus after working hours and hand over control to security officers?
