Coonoor: Before rescue, panther escapes from trap

Residents saw the panther trapped on top of the barbed wire fencing along the compound.

Coonoor: A panther whose front limb got trapped in a barbed wire fence in a private residential area in the Vandisholai area here, fought its way into the woods before foresters could launch rescue operations on Wednesday morning.

Residents saw the panther trapped on top of the barbed wire fencing along the compound. It is said that it could have got its front right leg trapped in the early hours while trying to cross over from the nearby jungles there.

It was standing upon the barbed wire metal fence along the bushes in a remote corner of the private land. Foresters in Coonoor were informed and they reached the spot to plan out strategies to rescue the panther.

But, the restless animal in its bid to free itself, somehow managed to free its trapped limb, and escaped into the forest, surprising everybody.
