220 teams participate in Acharya Nagarjuna University athletics meet

P.T. Usha urges institutions to promote sports actively.

GUNTUR: Famous sprinter P.T. Usha inaugurated 78th All-India Inter-University Athletics Championship 2017-18 in Acharya Nagarjuna University of Guntur district on Tuesday. Speaking about creating world class sports talent that can compete in international athletics, she said the educational institutions should actively promote sports among students.

She asked students to make good use of the sports facilities at the university and bring laurels to the institution and the country. Andhra Pradesh youth and sports department special secretary L.V. Subramanyam said the state government is taking measures to provide all facilities to conduct international sports at Amaravati and across Andhra Pradesh.

ANU vice-chancellor Prof A. Rajendra Prasad said that ANU is providing all sports facilities in its campus including international athletics track for international level sports events. Addressing the gathering, championship organising secretary Prof. P.P.S. Paul Kumar said teams from 220 universities covering all states of India are participating in the championship. Sports organising committee chairman Prof. Y. Kishore and many other officials participated in the inaugural programme.
