Declare Karnataka Drought-hit, Demands BJP

Mangaluru: The prevailing drought condition in various parts of the state has become a topic of political contention, with the Karnataka BJP using it as ammunition against the Congress party.

BJP leaders have not only begun voicing their concerns on the drought condition across the state but have also taken to social media to amplify their message.

"In a historic first, 196 Taluks across the state are reeling under the grip of drought. Despite this, the Congress government in the state remains hesitant to declare an official drought, thereby exacerbating the suffering of our people," remarked the BJP in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The party added, "How many more Taluks must endure drought conditions before the state is officially recognized as drought-prone? Does approval from Surjewala (AICC General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala) hold the key to declaring a drought?"

On the other hand, the Congress party has chosen to direct its criticism towards the central government, accusing it of failing to revise the drought management guidelines.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has repeatedly highlighted the state government's efforts in this regard, noting that despite their communications with the central government, there has been no response to address the pressing issue.
