Hospitals get notice from Hyderabad High Court

The bench admitted the PIL and issued notices.

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday issued notices to the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and their vigilance departments and also to Care Hospitals, Global Hospitals and Apollo Hospitals in the city on a PIL moved seeking to prevent the illegal and unethical medical practices committed by corporate and private hospitals and nursing homes in both states.

A division Bench comprising Justices V. Ramasubramanian and Anis was hearing a PIL by Mr Narender Kazipeta, whose sister T. Sunitha had died due to alleged negligence by Care Hospitals.

When Mr N.S. Arjun Kumar, counsel for the petitioner, brought to the court’s notice the above incidents, Justice Ramasubramanian recalled how a friend of his had died after undergoing a hair transplantation surgery.

When the judge asked why Apollo Hospitals had been arraigned as a respondent in the petition, the counsel replied that the main accused in the kidney racket of the Delhi branch of Apollo Hospitals was linked to AP. The bench admitted the PIL and issued notices.
