Petrol bike turned into CNG vehicle

This comes at a significant time as the central government has launched a CNG-based two-wheeler pilot project in New Delhi.

Hyderabad: Two students from Aurora's Engineering College (AEC), Bhongir, Mohammad Farooq Ahmed and Mohammad Osman Ahmed, have turned a petrol-powered two-wheeler into one that runs on CNG. This comes at a significant time as the central government has launched a CNG-based two-wheeler pilot project in New Delhi. As part of this programme only 50 bikes were retrofitted with CNG equipment.

The bike made by the AEC duo was giving out a claimed economy of 60 kilometres per kilogram of CNG and a maximum speed of 75 km/hour. Its carbon dioxide emission was just 1 per cent. In the bike’s petrol version, emissions are as high as 70-80 per cent. The vehicle’s CNG tank has been developed to hold around 4kg CNG. The engineering students developed this vehicle as part of their final year B.Tech project, said B. Lakshman Swamy, head of the mechanical engineering.
