MANUU students face action

The protests allegedly turned violent when a university official wanted to leave campus but was stopped by students with the gate closed.

Hyderabad: Seven students were issued show-cause notices in Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) last week after they participated in protests against water shortage at the university’s hostels in May.

The notices were served to the students by the university for seven reasons which included inciting students to disturb the peace in the university, putting the university under siege and stopping government officers from discharging their duties.

The protests allegedly turned violent when a university official wanted to leave the campus but was stopped by students with the gate closed. The showcause notice also included capturing the university gate and locking it unlawfully, using abusive language, misbehaving with teachers and causing physical and emotional harm to government servants.

The students have been given 15 days to reply. However, some students took to social media speaking out against issuing of the notices and comparing it with incidents which occurred in other universities recently like Aligarh Muslim University.
