Telangana govt fails to clarify its stand on Raja Singh, HC annoyed

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction at the Telangana government and the police for not filing its stand on a petition which challenges the orders issued for detaining Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh under the PD Act.

The division bench comprising Justice Annireddy Abhishek Reddy and Justice Juvvadi Sri Devi asked government counsel about the delay in filing the counters despite ample time being given to the state.

The bench was dealing with a petition filed by T. Ushabai, the wife of Raja Singh, challenging the proceedings under the Preventive Detention Act against her husband. She had filed the petition in the first week of September and the court on September 6 had directed the government and police to submit their contentions in four weeks.

On Tuesday, counsel for the government requested the bench for another two weeks to file a reply. He informed the court that the advisory board under the PD Act has taken a decision to not release Raja Singh.

Considering the request of government counsel, the bench gave time to file counters and adjourned the hearing to October 20.
