Bengaluru: Putting girl students in CXO's shoes for a day

The Canadian High Commission facilitated the girl students to shadow learn from CXOs of corporates in different fields of business.

Bengaluru: As part of the The Canadian High Commission facilitated the girl students to shadow learn from CXOs of corporates in different fields of business.initiative, the Embassy Group on Thursday hosted 12 girl students from Shanti Bhavan Residential School, at the Hilton Embassy Golf Links.

The programme started with short presentations by the Canadian Consul General, representatives of the Indo-Canadian Business Chamber and the girl students. This was followed by each girl student travelling with her sponsor CXO to the respective workplaces, for a familiarization of the different functions of the business as well as interacting with other employees. Each girl child gets to be a CXO for the day at the sponsors’ workplace.

In his address Mike Holland, Chief Executive Officer, Embassy Office Parks, said, “This is a great opportunity for the students present here to learn more about the corporate world, professional life and explore varied interest for their future. ”

Some of the participating organizations in the programme were Consulate General of Canada, Pimarq, We - MANA & AH Rogya, Embassy Office Parks, Infosys, Novatek International, Innovatia, CGI and Amadeus Software Labs India Pvt. Ltd.

Vyshali, a 12th standard student, said, “Overall, this is going to be a life changing experience for all of us because opportunities like these are very rare.”

Canada has spearheaded the creation of the International Day of the Girl Child and has been an active participant in observing the day each year.

‘I would like to pursue chemical engineering’
An interview with Maria Sneha George (17), a class 12 student at Shanti Bhavan Residential School. On the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, Maria is one of the twelve girl students selected to shadow learn from CXO's of corporates. DC reports
What is your favourite subject and what do you want to pursue for your higher education?
My favorite subject is Chemistry. I would like to do chemical engineering and I am interested in the manufacturing of toiletries. I would like to be a senior leader of an organisation in the future.
What importance does International Day of the Girl Child hold for you?
It’s really exciting to see that there is a day for the girl child. This day allows more people to think of education and opportunities that girls receive all over the world. This day also opens many doors and opportunities for girls.
Is there anything that interests you apart from studies and any message for girls on this day?
I am really interested in football and in my school’s football team. Our football team participated in an inter school competition and we won! In the future, I would like to encourage more girls to play football. I would like to start of small and then I will eventually get better and bigger ideas.
