Law Body Gets 46L Replies on UCC, Deadline July 14

NEW DELHI: Close to 46 lakh responses have been submitted with
the Law Commission of India on the draft Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

The last date to submit views is July 14.

The Law Commission is holding consultations on the issue which is slowly gaining political momentum. The stakeholders can also make their submissions in the form of consultation, discussion or working papers on any of the issues pertaining to the UCC to the Law
Commission of India. The Commission will also call some individuals and organizations for a personal hearing or discussion on the issue, the Law Commission said.

The Law Commission clarified that certain Whatsapp texts, calls, messages and phone numbers (to give missed calls in support of UCC) being circulated pertaining to UCC are fake and people
should not fall for them. It clarified that the commission communicates only through the official channels and not through Whatsapp texts, calls, messages and phone numbers. People have to submit views only on the website.

Earlier, the 21st Law Commission, the term of which ended in August
2018, examined the issue and solicited the views of
all stakeholders on two occasions.
