Greater Chennai Corporation organises cleaning programme

The participants cleaned the Ambattur burial ground and collected more than 18 tonnes of waste.

Chennai: As part of Swachh Bharat Programme, more than 125 conservancy workers and 75 volunteers participated in a Special Cleaning Programme organised by the Greater Chennai Corporation officials on Sunday. The participants cleaned the Ambattur burial ground and collected more than 18 tonnes of waste. Dry and wet waste was collected separately before dumping in the Corporation vehicles.

Speaking to DC, Dr T G Srinivasan, Health Education Officer, Chennai Corporation said, “A rally was conducted to sensitise the people on waste segregation methods. The segregated waste collected at the burial ground was sent to the compost yards of the corporation."

The volunteers have made a self-declaration that they would participate in the cleaning activities every week and involve in source segregation at their houses. They also took Swach Bharat pledge propagating cleanliness.

Executive Engineer, Suresh Kumar and Assistant Executive Engineer, G.K.Babu participated in the cleaning programme.
